Getting Ready for 2012
THANK YOU!
I would first like to thank my wonderful wife, Rachel, and my 3 children, Claudia, Caroline and Douglas, for their support throughout the campaign. They gave up a lot of time with me so that I could go out and meet so many of you. I look forward to getting back to my favorite activity of all – family time!To the supporters of our campaign, what else can I say? You were all great! Thank you for your time, effort, donations and hard work! Without it, we would not have been able to achieve what we did.
Small town politics is just that, small town politics. It is not always what you want to do, but often who you know. From the outset, we ran a campaign based on facts. We talked about real issues and problems. We proposed solutions to those problems. In the end, we were only 195 votes short of bringing a voice for fiscal responsibility to the General Assembly.
I was enthusiastic about this process until the end, when I learned of the ugly rumors and lies being spread about me and our campaign. The culmination was my opponent storming away from me at a polling place, swearing at me, and later his mother and father yelling at me at another polling place, all based on rumors and lies. While I accepted the apology that he later sent to me through a third party, I was left with a new set of questions about Mr. Keable and how he will conduct himself in the General Assembly. Mr. Keable, I respectfully ask you to please know your facts before you speak on our behalf in Providence. Whether we voted for you or not, we all deserve better behavior from you as our Representative.
In closing this campaign, I encourage my fellow residents to attend Mr. Keable's "Town Hall" style monthly meetings that were promised at the top of his list of initiatives. These are to be held monthly while the General Assembly is in session. I encourage him to advertise these in the Bargain Buyer so that residents will know when and where they will take place. It is now our job to encourage Mr. Keable to do what he promised. I join him in his commitment to Zambarano and to economic growth for northwestern Rhode Island, but I will be just as quick to question him on issues related to fiscal responsibility. I encourage my fellow residents to do the same.
Thank you all again for your support!
